Windows Protection Alarm - How to Remove This Fake Anti-Malware Software From Your PC
If you suddenly find you have a new anti-spyware program on your computer you may think another member of your family has installed it or you have downloaded it and forgot about it.
You may have malware on your computer though and if you have the windows protection alarm on your PC this is definitely malware and you need to get rid of it.
If you find this on your computer you may believe it is genuine as it even has a genuine Microsoft logo on it and appears to run a real scan.
Do not be fooled though.
This is all a trick to get you to part with your money.
What does this malware do? You will get warning messages telling you that potential threats have been found on your PC that can affect your security and your computer and you will not be able to use affected programs until you fix them.
What is really happening is this malware blocks these programs and will not allow any genuine antivirus or anti-malware programs to run as they will remove this malware.
If you run a scan with windows protection alarm the results are enough to give you a big shock.
You will see reports about trojan horse viruses and other malware and warn you that your computer is at risk unless you run a full scan.
If you do this you will then get a message telling you that you need to upgrade to the full version to remove the malware.
There is no malware on your computer and the full version is just a big trick to make you hand over your hard earned money.
How do you get rid of this? Windows protection alarm installs itself so it starts with windows.
This makes it more difficult to remove.
Here is what you need to do.
#1 When it starts up it will tell you that you need to run a scan.
If you do not let this scan run it will stop you using your computer.
Let the scan run (it is a fake scan), ignore the errors it reports at the end and press the fix errors button.
This will then take you to the update manager screen.
Click on the "x" in the top corner to close the program.
Do not click on or run any other part of this malicious program.
#2 Stop the window protection alarm processes.
To do this start task manager by pressing the CTRL-SHIFT-ESCAPE keys together.
Once task manager opens go to the processes tab and look for a process with a random name that such as jjolmhhfg.
exe or other nonsensical names and stop it by clicking on it and then clicking on end process at the bottom of the task manager screen.
#3 If you cannot stop the process or cannot find it this means this malware is preventing you from stopping it.
Restart your computer in safe mode by pressing the F8 key When your PC starts but before windows starts.
Keep doing it until you see a list of options on your screen.
From this list select safe mode with networking then go to the next step.
#4 Open your browser and download a system and registry scanner such as PC health check.
This will scan your windows files and registry entries for corrupt and malicious entries and fix them.
You must do this while in safe mode.
#5 If your browser is not working in safe mode it means it is being redirected.
To fix this do the following.
Open internet explorer and go to internet options at the top of the internet explorer screen.
Once this opens go to connections and then click on where it says LAN settings.
Untick the box that says use a proxy server and then press OK.
#6 Once this is done restart your PC and you should be rid of the windows protection alarm malware from your PC.
