How to Add Dye to Flowers

    • 1). Snip the stems off of your flowers. If you are using potted flowers, snip them just above the soil. If you are using previously cut flowers, cut off an inch or so while holding the stems under water. In any case, all the stems of the flowers that are going to be dyed should be nearly the same length.

    • 2). Fill the vase or glass container with water. The water should cover about three inches of the stems.

    • 3). Add food coloring to the water. You will want to add enough food coloring to color the water but still be able to see through the water. Five drops or so should do the trick. If the water is practically opaque, you have added too much.

    • 4). Place the flowers in the colored water. They will start to absorb the color through their stems.

    • 5). Monitor the flowers until they reach the desired color. After about an hour, you should start to see some change in color. Check on the flowers frequently until they have achieved just the right shade.
