Projects for Embroidered Pillows and Towels
- Celebrate a wedding by giving embroidered pillows and towels. For traditional weddings, stitch monograms or initials. Use speciality threads that are attractive and washable. Select hues of silver, gold or the bride's wedding colors. Find embroidery patterns at fabric and craft stores, or design your own. Use existing craft tools, such as bell-shaped Christmas cookie cutters to trace wedding bells on to the cloth for stitching.
- Delight a child with embroidered pillows and towels. Use the child's favorite movie, television or book characters, or try vintage designs with a young child's favorite animal. Include the child in selecting the images and thread colors. You can allow older children to help with the embroidery project if they wish. Or, decorate pillows and towels stitched with the child's name or initials.
- Highlight seasons of the year on pillows and towels. Search books, magazines and websites for holiday patterns showing Valentine's Day, the Fourth of July, Halloween and Christmas. Or, highlight the flora and fauna with embroidered trees, flowers, deer, bunnies and birds. Change the towels and pillowcases with the changing seasons.
- Make original art embroidery designs. Join embroiderers who are blending craft and art. Develop unconventional designs in new ways. Experiment with colors and shapes. Follow your imagination to discover new ways to place embroidery art on pillows and towels. Attend crafts and art shows to network with other crafts artists.
