How Do You Do a System Recovery If a DVD Drive Doesn't Work?

    • 1). Back up all your important data before beginning the System Recovery application. System Recovery will delete all data from the hard drive.

    • 2). Unplug all peripheral devices, such as printers, external hard drives and webcams, before running the recovery application. If you are using a laptop, plug it in to AC power.

    • 3). Reboot your computer. As it is booting, press the F8 key on your keyboard before the Windows logo appears.

    • 4). Select "Repair your computer" and press "Enter" on the keyboard. If "Repair your computer" is not available, then your computer does not have the System Recovery software application. See your computer manufacturer for help.

    • 5). Enter your user name and password if applicable.

    • 6). Follow the onscreen instructions to run the System Recovery application.
