How to Troubleshoot a Fujitsu ScanSnap S500
- 1). Restart the ScanSnap S500. Unplug the device from its power source, wait for a few seconds then and plug it back in. Wait until the scanner is ready and then attempt to scan a document. Sometimes a simple restart can correct errors that you may encounter.
- 2). Make sure that the ScanSnap S500 is properly connected to one of the open USB ports on your computer via a USB cable.
- 3). Locate the "Open" switch on the front of the scanner to your right. Pull the switch to open the cover of the document feeder.
- 4). Examine the document feeder for paper jams. If you find a sheet of paper that is stuck, pull it out gently. Close the cover of the document feeder after you have cleared the jam.
- 5). Connect the ScanSnap S500 to a different power outlet. If the problem persists when the device is plugged into another outlet, continue to the next step.
- 6). Download the "ScanSnap Manager (S500) Update Pack for Windows 7" (see "Resources" below). Double-click the file "ssv40l20up2.exe" and select "Run..." to begin the update process.
