What are 10 things you can do with your kids this summer at home? It doesn't have to be all about spending money and playing all the time. Sure play is fun but there are productive things that can be done around the home which can be fun in their own way. Plus it can create bonding while teaching them something useful at the same time like a painting or building or just learning good habits.

I'll go over some of these and you can see how they can benefit you and your family for years to come. Once you get the idea you can explain these projects to your kids in a way that shows them that they will be learning something as well as working instead of saying just let go out in the yard and pull weeds today.

1. Working in the Yard

Nobody really likes working in the yard but if you can explain that the yard is the responsibility of the owner you are teaching them responsibility and a good habit. They live there and should do their share. When the yard looks nice and neat it actually feels good.

2. Building a Vegetable Garden

Going out in the backyard and getting your hands dirty doesn't sound like fun but if you say let's make a vegetable garden, now that can be exciting. Make some suggestions and together pick the vegetables to grow. The beginning might be hard work but once the plants start sprouting the work will then feel worth it. And when the vegetable starts growing and when you all go out and pick them they will feel proud. Then wait till you cook and serve them at the dinner table, it will be a project and lesson well worth it.

3. Building a Shed

How about building a shed to put all your stuff inside that has accumulated over the years. If you have some tools and some carpentry skills there are simple plans that a DIYer can handle. When built it will be something there for years for you to use. It can also double as a playhouse.

4. Fixing up the House, Painting etc.

Maintaining your home is something that has to be done and it can be a good lesson for your kids for their adult years as homeowners themselves. No one likes to live in a beat up run down home.

5. Building a Barbecue Pit

Now this can be a project that can be used all summer once finished. This can also be a simple DIYer project and showing your kids the pictures of sample pits can be something that they will look forward to enjoying all summer.

6. Putting in a Play Area

7. Making a Putting Green

8. Putting up a Basketball Hoop

9. Cleaning Out the Garage

Do you see how working together at home can be a time of learning new skills, creating good habits and it can be fun and rewarding all at the same time. It doesn't have to be all work all the time. But yet even work can be fun or at least rewarding when it is done.

Once the project is done and they can see the results, they can feel proud of themselves and be sure to let them know how proud you are of them. There are many other projects that can be done at home during the summer. Also maybe going out to eat, going to a movie or even bowling together once in awhile can be a reward after the project is done.
