How to Disassemble an Eee 900 Fan
- 1). Disconnect the AC adapter/power cord from the rear of the Eee 900. Shut down the computer.
- 2). Turn over the computer and remove the battery. The battery's outline is at the top of the laptop's underside, and just below this are two sliding release mechanisms. Slide each simultaneously to release the battery.
- 3). Activate the springs along the top row of keys holding the keyboard in place. There are three very small springs in the crevices behind the keyboard at three different locations. The first location is just to the left of the "F1" key, the second location is directly between the "F6" and "F7" keys and the final location is just to the right of the "F12" key. Activate these springs by pushing them back with a thin, wedge-like object, such as a guitar pick. Other thin, plastic objects may be used, but do not use metal or you may damage the springs.
- 4). Lift the board out of the laptop's housing now that the springs have been activated. Disconnect the keyboard ribbon cable that connects to the motherboard beneath the keyboard. Push the two sides of the connector forward slightly and gently, then slide the cable out and remove the keyboard altogether.
- 5). Turn the Eee 900 over and remove the screws on its underside. There are four along its front edge and one at each of the back corners. Use a Phillips screwdriver. You will use this screwdriver to remove all screws on the computer.
- 6). Turn the laptop back over and remove every visible screw from the metal area beneath where the keyboard formerly resides.
- 7). Remove the SD card from the computer, if applicable. This card is in a slot at the front of the right side of the notebook.
- 8). Use your fingertips or more guitar picks to create separation between the now loose top metal cover and the rest of the Eee 900. Pry this cover off, revealing the full motherboard.
- 9). Disconnect the fan cable from the fan connector at the top left corner of the motherboard. Lift up on the connector and slide out the cable.
- 10
Look to the bottom edge of the motherboard, and slightly to the left. A white connector nearly identical to the fan connector can be seen here. This is the speaker connector. Lift up on the connector and slide out the speaker cable. - 11
Find the two small clips holding down the motherboard. These are at the very bottom edge of the motherboard. Press these clips against the motherboard's edge and lift the motherboard up to reveal the black fan at the top left. Leave the motherboard tilted up. - 12
Remove the three screws holding the fan in place. - 13
Peel off the foam strip stuck to the fan's casing. Pull out the fan.
