John Deere 4020 Performance Specifications
- The John Deere 4020 came with a six-cylinder, variable speed engine with a 404 cubic inch displacement. This engine can move at a maximum of 2,500 rpm, though the company recommended a range between 1,500 rpm and 2,200 rpm. The engine was cooled with a centrifugal pump that featured thermostatic heat control, and contained full pressure, full flow lubrication. The company built the John Deere 4020 engine to pull large hauls without wearing thin.
- Originally, the John Deere 4020 came in two different configurations. Buyers could select a row-crop tractor, which is specifically designed for crops grown in rows, and will include a cultivator. The other choice was a standard configuration, built for most plowing jobs. These were eventually combined in later models and only one hybrid model became available. Farmers could also choose from a gasoline, LP-gas or diesel engine, with the latter being the most popular of the three.
- The John Deere 4020 came with a variety of front ends that were built for different situations. This included the single wheel, tricyle, the Roll Guard and wide front end. The Roll Guard was the newest feature on the 4020, which included a barrier at the front of the tractor for added safety. The most popular selection was the wide front end, which is standard for most tractor configurations, but many farmers chose from the other options as well.
- The 4020 tractor featured an enclosed cab, or driver's seat, that was built with safety in mind. The cab was completely enclosed, with large plexiglass windows for full visibility. The Roll Over protective structure that surrounded the cab is connected from the front fender to the rear axle so that it is extra sturdy. John Deere designed this tructure to protect farmers on steep terrain, so that the cab did not detach from the rest of the tractor.
