- 1). Ready all components needed for installing your receiver. In addition to the television and receiver, required components include a coaxial cable, an HDMI cable and an RCA cable if connecting to a television that lacks an HDMI port. Attach the end of the coaxial cable leading from the satellite to the “Satellite In 1 (FTM)” input on the rear of the DirectTV receiver.
- 2). Insert one end of an HDMI cable in the HDMI input located at the rear of the television and the other in the HDMI output located at the rear of the DirectTV receiver. If connecting an older television, connect the yellow male RCA cable to the yellow female RCA video input and connect the red and white male tips to the red and white audio inputs on the television. If using a surround sound system to provide audio for your receiver, connect the red and white RCA cables to the inputs on your surround-sound systems receiver.
- 3). Power up the television receiver and navigate to the input menu. Press “Connect” on the menu screen or “Input” on the menu to allow your television to pick up the signal from the DirectTV receiver.
