How to Remove Failed Updates From the Windows Vista List
- 1). Click the Windows "Start" button and select "All Programs."
- 2). Click the "Accessories" option.
- 3). Right click on "Command Prompt" and select "Run as Administrator" from the pop-up menu.
- 4). Type "net stop wuauserv" (without the quotes) at the command prompt and press "Enter." A pop-up confirmation message appears. Click "OK" to confirm you want to stop the Windows Update service. A message appears when the Windows Update service is stopped.
- 5). Type the following at the command prompt, then press "Enter":
del %systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore\Logs\edb.log
This command deletes the failed updates from the Windows Update list. - 6). Type "net start wuauserv" (without quotes) at the command prompt and press "Enter" to restart the Windows Update service. Type "exit" (without quotes) to close the Command Prompt window.
