How to Build a Cat Hammock
- 1). Cut four strips of fabric measuring 4 inches wide and 8 inches long.
- 2). Fold each strip of fabric in half with the right sides together to create a 2-inch by 8-inch strip. Iron the folded fabric strip to set a crease.
- 3). Sew along the 8-inch long raw edge of each strip with a sewing machine. Turn each strip right side out after sewing.
- 4). Fold a standard size pillowcase in half lengthwise and iron along the fold. A standard size pillowcase is usually 30 inches by 20 inches, so your folded pillowcase should measure approximately 15 inches by 20 inches.
- 5). Fold each fabric strip in half lengthwise and tuck the unfolded edges in between the pillowcase layers at each corner. Insert the strips approximately 1 inch into the pillowcase and pin them into place.
- 6). Sew along each side of the pillowcase using a 1/4-inch seam allowance and a zigzag stitch. Sew over the fabric strips as you go to secure them to the pillowcase. This will create a fabric loop at each corner of the cat hammock.
- 7). Insert a key chain ring or binder loop into each loop at the corners of your pillowcase.
- 8). Attach the rings to the top of a wire pet cage or animal carrier or the bottom of a wire shelving unit to hang your cat hammock.
