Intercollegiate Debate Scholarships
- Cedarville University offers one to four intercollegiate debate scholarships annually, with amounts ranging from $500 to $2,500 to full-time students with a GPA of 3.25 and above. Established in 1992 by Deborah and David Haffey (classes of 1968 and 1969 respectively), this scholarship is awarded to a full-time student who is a participant on the Cedarville University Intercollegiate Debate Team. Potential scholarship recipients are recommended by the Debate Team, with a final selection being chosen by the Communication Arts Department Chairperson, the Forensics Team coach and a member of the Communication Arts Department.
- Emory University's Barkley Forum is an award-winning debate team that has received national recognition. Every year, Emory University's Office of Admission grants a merit scholarship to an incoming freshman, which is renewable for four years of undergraduate study. For consideration, applications must demonstrate not only excellence in the area of debate, but also overall academic achievement. Applications should include a high school transcript, standardized test scores and a record of debate accomplishments and must be submitted directly to the Barley Forum and Emory's dean of admissions
- The University of Kansas offers a number of scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students participating in KU Debate. The David McDonald Scholarship is available to out-of-state students participating in KU Debate, and the J. Mark and Bridget O. Gidley Scholarship is available to incoming freshmen and sophomore students who are KU debaters. Recipients will have strong academic and debate backgrounds. The Donn W. Parson Award provides tuition assistance to undergraduate students, and the Donn W. Parson Award for Graduate Teaching Assistants offers support to KU graduate students who work with the KU Debate program.
- Every year, Hardy Scholarships are awarded to two Northwestern University debaters who demonstrate financial need. The Hardy Scholarships assist recipients with their personal expenses during the school year so that they can dedicate their time to preparing for and attending debates. Any student who applies for financial aid and demonstrates need for assistance will be considered for the scholarship through the Office of Financial Aid.
