In fact, it has become one of the top occupational hazards.
But there are easy things you can do to minimize back pain from working at the computer.
The first thing that needs to be considered to get rid of this back pain is to correct posture and have adequate movement.
Most of us have the tendency to sit in the same posture for hour on ends, without leaving our seats for even a short break.
It will work wonders for your back if you get up at regular intervals and move a bit.
This will go a long way in getting rid of a back pain.
Sitting with the right posture is equally important.
Right posture implies that the bones are so aligned that there is hardly any stress on the body.
This means that the ligaments, the muscles and the joints are in perfect balance and there are no chances of any injury.
Sitting in the correct posture also helps in breathing and digestion.
So apart from taking care of your back, it also serves a couple of other purposes.
So what exactly is the correct posture to have while working on the computer? Your head should be straight without tilting to any particular side.
The elbows should be positioned at an angle of 90o.
The thigh and the torso should also form a right angle.
When it comes to the correct posture at work, it is not only about the upper body, your lower leg and thigh should be positioned at a 90 degree right angle.
The eyes should be directed towards the central portion of the monitor.
It is not possible to retain this position for a long span.
This results in the tissues losing out on their elasticity.
That is why it is recommended that you take a break from work and walk every hour or two.
You can also do a bit of stretching to make yourself feel better.
Moreover you should ensure that the monitor and the keyboard are placed at an appropriate height.
This less you have to tilt your head to view your monitor the less you will have neck strain that will travel down into the back area.
While health concerns are paramount when discussing the correct ways to prevent back strain when working in front of a computer, the efficiency issue is also important.
