Keratosis Pilaris a wide-spread skin issue and disease, also called "Chicken Skin".
Keratosis means an excess of keratin in Latin, therefore the name of this disease.
This excess keratin surrounds and entraps the hair follicles in the pore, causing the formation of hard plugs (known as hyperkeratinisation).
The red spots mostly occur on the upper back, arms and thighs.
|upper back, arms, thighs, cheeks and few others are the most common places where the red spots appear.
The statistics say that about 42% of the adult population is affected by this disease and even more of adolescents.
It is also more common for women than for men and it is mostly inherited.
This skin issue is disgusting for people around, but it is totally harmless for them because it is not contagious.
There is no pain or itching.
Chicken Skin is not acne, even though when it appears on the face, it is often mistaken for it.
This disease mostly get worse during the winter because of cold outside and better during the summer months.
