Alabama offers many facilities that provide guided turkey hunting excursions. State law requires the pursuit of turkeys to be "fair chase," so hunting over feed such as corn is not allowed. However, decoys have been permitted since 2006, and gobbler calls are also used to lure the birds. Most hunting lodges in Alabama will assist with obtaining hunting licenses and offer accommodations and meals along with a guided hunt. - Hawkins Ridge Lodge offers gobbler turkey hunting trips each spring when the season begins on March 20. Due to the abundance of birds on 16,000 acres, each hunter is allowed two turkeys per hunt. Hunters are allowed to hunt in blinds and may call their own gobblers or use an experienced guide. Hunting licenses may be bought at the lodge, and meals and accommodations are included with the hunt for an additional fee. Amenities include semi-private rooms, a large stone fireplace, a spacious game room with pool tables and a large back deck with rocking chairs. Pickup at the Dothan, Alabama, airport is also available.
