    • 1). Paint or stain an unfinished wooden plaque. Unfinished wooden plaques are available in craft stores. When choosing a paint color, be sure to choose one that will contrast with the color of vinyl that you have. Staining the plaque is also a good choice and will give it a sophisticated look. Be sure that the stain or paint is completely dry before adding the vinyl letters.

    • 2). Load the vinyl sheet into the Cricut machine. Set the pressure dial to high and adjust the size of the font. Be sure to choose a font size that will allow the name to fit on the plaque. Professional nameplates usually use a font approximately 1 inch high.

    • 3). Type the name into the Cricut keypad and press cut. The Plantin Schoolbook cartridge uses a very professional font that is perfect for a professional setting such as an office. The cartridge allows you to bold and italic fonts as well.

    • 4). Push the unload button to unload the vinyl sheet. Then, peel the cut vinyl letters out of the vinyl sheet. Peel the adhesive backing off the letters and place them on the nameplate. It may be necessary to use a ruler to be sure that the letters are level on the nameplate.
