Man Friday called Patio Umbrella
Man Friday to me is what I call my patio umbrella. This is literally true as the umbrella is a constant companion to me in two of the most challenging seasons of the year, the rainy and the summer. There is more to these patio umbrellas than just the help that they provide during the rains and the scorching heat that we have to bear during the summer. They are not just handy but also protect us in many ways. All of us are aware of the fact that umbrellas protect us from the rains by keeping us and dry and not letting us get drenched in the rains. Whether it is a slight drizzle or a heavy downpour, it is there to bail us out. Similarly on a very hot and sunny day these umbrellas protect us from the heat, by providing us shade and also protect our skin from sun burn and harmful ultraviolet rays.
The worst thing that one can imagine is when someone is going out and we do not arrive at our destination in the same condition as we left our home. We do not want to arrive in a condition of water flowing from all parts of our clothes (if we get drenched in rain) and in the other context water flowing from all parts of our body (read sweat) if it was a very hot and sunny day. This wonderful and handy instrument thereby acts as our man Friday in keeping us in the shape that we wish to be.
There have been reports on many occasions that these umbrellas have been helpful to us women folks in warding off mild hostile attacks from hoodlums who roam the street looking for an easy prey and quick kill. Hence I will call the umbrellas as one stone that kills many birds. Not in literal terms but in reality.
A patio umbrella is more helpful as a seasonal instrument since these are bigger than normal umbrellas. They come in sizes as small as 5 to 6 feet and as big as 11 to 12 feet, but the two most common sizes are 9 foot and 11 foot. That said these days you can order a patio umbrella which can be customized to suit your individual requirements. All you need is an open purse.
A patio umbrella also comes in different shapes. The most popular being either an eight rib umbrella or the hexagonal six rib version. Many umbrella dealers offer unique shapes such as square, oval or even rectangle patio umbrellas.
The most common style features a center pole supporting a connecting hub and extending ribs. Some prefer to use what is known as an offset or cantilever patio umbrella. These unique parasols hang the canopy extended from a side post mount with the obvious benefit being the elimination of the center pole. Anchoring these large patio umbrellas is problematic and typically requires using four patio pavers for ballast. This will require an extra trip to your local home and garden store. Many feel that the nuisance of pavers negates the benefit provided by the elimination of the center pole.
Last but not least the color. Patio umbrellas are available in varied colors like Red, Green, Blue, white and Orange etc. It is like you name it and you got it color. But the most important, rather the best selling color is white. The light shades of white and cream are most used as it has been scientifically proven that they are the best radiators of heat compared to their dark counterparts like black, blue etc.
Hence I would also recommend that if you are planning to buy a Patio Umbrella you should also buy the same in white. Going with the general trend on this will not hurt you, your skin or your purse in any way.
