Hard Times? It"s Only Our Perception

103 5
I have been around a few years and living through difficult times is a challenge but interesting and fun...
in a way.
Don't get me wrong, I like the good times it's just that adversity forces me to use my brain.
It forces me to devise ways to survive, it forces me to grow stronger...
necessity is the mother of invention.
Have you ever been watching some inane TV show and all of a sudden the power goes out, not only that but it stays out? It's fun getting out the candles or flashlights and board games.
Here is a situation where we spend quality time with loved-ones.
Plus, one actually gets to bed at a reasonable time.
Hard times might be a huge health benefit in disguise.
When gas prices went to $4 I saw many, many bicyclers getting great workouts! I was talking to a person last night who said they were afraid of an economic downturn and I said flatly "I'm not".
I am not afraid because I have been through several downturns and realize that God helps me in all circumstances.
I am not afraid because the vast majority of us will be in the same boat.
We will just have to make do and help each other.
I am not afraid because the economy is just like ocean waves...
up and down.
If it's down a lot, well get ready for a tsunami to the up side.
I am not afraid because I don't mind hard work.
In fact, hard work helps me sleep well at night...
like a log.
A lot of depressed people would feel better if they actually got a good dose of HARD work! I like the challenge of economizing.
Instead of buying expensive iced coffees at coffee shops my son and I make our own at home for 1/5 the cost (and they taste even better!) Instead of buying expensive drinks at gas stations...
the companies who have been reaping RECORD profits on gas...
we make our drinks at home and save a bundle (heck, why give extra money to THEM?).
Instead of going out to expensive restaurants we eat at home...
and enjoy it more! Instead of buying convenience foods such as deli meat we have roasted turkey.
Deli turkey is about $5 a pound and the turkey we roast works out to about $2 per pound and tastes better! There are many, many ways to save money and not only save money but in some cases improve at the same time.
How about this; instead of going to the ball game I stay home and see it on the 56" TV and eat a lean roasted turkey sandwich (wholewheat) instead of a fatty hot dog (white bun) and drink an iced tea that cost a whole 10 cents, while working my internet business and make an extra $100 and enjoy air-conditioned comfort and NOT have to walk three blocks and NO parking fees and my shoes don't stick to the floor from all the spilled sodas and I don't have to worry about getting beaned by a foul-ball...
you get my point.
To me this is simply optimizing my time and pleasure, and leveraging my effectiveness.
There are so many ways we can save and improve our lives at the same time if we just use our brains! It is fun to come up with solutions...
let's do it! Here is something to think about; either the money goes into your pocket or someone else'.
I mean if you save money it is like putting that money right in YOUR pocket (my Dad taught me that; he could stretch a dime around the world!).
Aside: I am not advocating being cheap toward servers...
always be kind (my frugal Dad tipped well!).
It is fun figuring out how to put more (and keep more) in our pockets! Fear or fun; it's all how you look at it.
