    Immunity

    • Keeping your immune system as healthy as possible is the first to flu prevention. Start by taking supplements that boost the immune system functions. Garlic is a potent method of delivering vitamins and selenium that promote healthy immune systems. For maximum potency you should try to consume at least three raw cloves of garlic every day. If the potency and smell is too much for you try ingesting it in the supplemental form. Garlic is available in capsules and as an oil extract.

      Also try taking a daily tincture made from astragalus. Astragalus will protect your immune system and promote healing in your body in addition to giving you an extra energy boost. In addition to these herbs and supplements try to drink at least one glass of Kombucha tea everyday during flu season. Kombucha is a mixture of various bacteria, yeast and lechen. These elements are fermented into a tea that contains nutrients to detoxify your body. Brewing Kombucha at home is a rather complicated process so it would probably be easier to purchase premade gallons from your local health food store.

      Echinacea also is a powerful herb to aid a healthy immune system, but is not recommended as a daily preventative herb. It seems to be most effective when taken as the first symptoms of flu begin to prevent themselves.

    Hygiene

    • A few simple, natural hygiene practices can go a long way in preventing a case of the flu from developing. Regular hand washing used in conjunction with hand sanitizer should be a daily practice.

      If you do not want to use regular hand sanitizers that contain additives you can easily make your own. Use a combination of extracts from rosemary, tea tree and eucalyptus and mix them with olive oil for a safe and natural hand sanitizer. Rinse and gargle every morning and evening with salt water to kill harmful bacteria that may be lining the mouth, nose and throat.

    Other Considerations

    • Maintaining a healthy body with proper diet and exercise throughout the year can be the best method of flu prevention. This helps to build and sustain a healthy immune system throughout the year. If you are sick, avoid contact with the public and encourage others to do the same. This is a courtesy that will help prevent many people from contacting the flu virus.
