Carmel, CA: Obama Administration Changes Rules For Medicare Groups Called ACOs: Caregiver View
Carmel, CA: Obama Administration Changes Rules For Medicare Groups Called ACOs: View From A Private Duty Caregiver Serving Carmel, Carmel Valley, Carmel-by-the-Sea, Gilroy, Gonzalez, Greenfield, Hollister, King City, Marina, Monterey, Pacific Grove, Pebble Beach, Salinas, Sand City, San Juan Bautista, Seaside And Soledad CaliforniaPresident Barack Obama's health care reform took another turn this week, with the administration revising regulations to try and get health care industry professionals on board with his plan to start Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs). The President wants health care providers to form partnerships to reduce cost of caring for those on Medicare while at the same time improving quality. Proponents of the ACO's believe they could save taxpayers billions of dollars by better coordinating patients care instead of having patients seeing multiple Doctors who aren't always informed of what the other physicians are diagnosing or treating. "ACOs can represent a very big step forward in helping to transform Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Programs so they can help assure high quality, seamless and less costly care," Dr. Donald Berwick, who oversees the programs for the federal government told The Monterey Herald. The new rules require each ACO to manage at least 5,000 Medicare patients and those that reduce the cost of caring for those patients while maintaining high quality would share the savings with the Medicare program. Many in the medical community felt the initial rules were too strict and there were fears Doctors wouldn't be on board with forming ACOs. After the new rules were released, George Roman, senior health policy direct at the American Medical Group Association, told the Herald, "There certainly have been some significant and noteworthy changes." Hopefully this signals a move towards new ACOs.http://www.montereyherald.com/rss/ci_19162958?source=rssAbout Richard Kuehn & Family inHome Caregiving of Monterey:After more than a decade of caregiving, both in a professional environment and for a 97 year old family member I was dissatisfied with service from local caregiving agencies.
