Medical alert systems first alert medical responses are vital when a senior cannot call for help on their own. There are many different medical alarm companies who provide this type of service and it's very important to do your homework before selecting a company. Whether its seniors or their children, most of the time people have lots of questions about how the whole medical alert system works. One of the biggest concerns is how the paramedics will gain entry to home. There are a few different remedies to these concerns, which will be discussed in this article.

An accident happens. You could have fallen and have trouble getting up. What do you do? If you are smart enough to have a medical alert system, all you have to do is press the button you are wearing. This will be either around your neck as a necklace or on your wrist as a wristband like a medical alert bracelet. Once you press that emergency button, you've started a chain of dominos that will lead to your eventual rescue.

An operator from the monitoring center will come over the speaker box console and start to assess the situation. You can either tell the operator you are okay or that you need the paramedics. If you do not answer back to the operator, the monitoring center will deem the situation an emergency and immediately dispatch the paramedics.

You are unable to move. How will the paramedics gain entry to your home? There are a handful of options each senior has in this situation. If a relative or friend or neighbor lives nearby they should be on your list of emergency responders. You must tell your medical alarm company who on your list has a key to your home. One option for the paramedics gaining access to your home is to have the monitoring center give a first alert to the responders who have a key so they can meet the paramedics at the door with a key and provide an easy way into the home.

However, perhaps you have no relatives or friends who live nearby. Or maybe you do, but don't feel comfortable relying on them in this way. Another great option is a lockbox. Many seniors put a realtor's lockbox on their front door and leave a key inside. The only way to retrieve the key is to have the combination and it cannot be pulled off the front door. You will have the combination and so will your medical alarm company. In the event of an emergency, the monitoring center will give the combination to the paramedics at the time of the dispatch.

Some medical alert companies will even provide a free lockbox as a gift with purchase. This is the kind of company you want to choose.

Lastly, if you have neither a lockbox nor a person with a key to arrive, the paramedics will have to forcefully gain entry to your home. This is preventable, and it is recommended that you get a lockbox.

And do not worry, however the paramedics gain entry, they will always lock the door behind them when they leave.
