Many seniors put a realtor's lockbox on their front door and leave a key inside. The only way to retrieve the key is to have the combination and it cannot be pulled off the front door. You will have the combination and so will your medical alarm company. In the event of an emergency, the monitoring center will give the combination to the paramedics at the time of the dispatch.

Some medical alert companies will even provide a free lockbox as a gift with purchase. This is the kind of company you want to choose.

Lastly, if you have neither a lockbox nor a person with a key to arrive, the paramedics will have to forcefully gain entry to your home. This is preventable, and it is recommended that you get a lockbox.
