Twitter is a free social networking and social media service that lets you post, send and read other peoples 140 character messages, that are also known as tweets! This program allows you to communicate with the community of people that have "followed" you on "the system".
And you can easily use this system to attract more paying customers and turn strangers into friends, and friends into profitable purchasers! When you first start working with "the system", you will be using the "standard" web page interface to work with it, but after a while you will want to explore other programs that add tons of functionality to it.
The creators of Twitter have made it possible for other programmers to communicate with this program.
And this allows programmers to create programs that "talk" to the system, get information back from it and display it in many different ways on your computer screen.
Here are some of the many of different tasks that can be done with the programs that have been created by other programmers to access Twitter:
  • view your tweets by category and groups of users
  • see your ranking in comparison to other people
  • automatically post tweets so that you can make "timed" updates
  • shrink long web site addresses to take up less of the 140 characters of space (allowed for a tweet)
  • see a list of people that you have followed that have not "followed you back"
And there are also many other useful programs that allow you to "interface" with it.
For example, there is an extremely popular program, also called an application or service, called TweetDeck.
Benefits of Using TweetDeck - A Very Popular Application / Service / Program This program lets you customize your view so that you can see it more effectively - for the common tasks that you need to do.
For example, you can use TweetDeck to: Create a group, assign it a name and add users to it.
This is extremely useful, because it allows you to easily monitor a group of users and see the tweets that they have posted.
Filter" tweets by various categories, such as user name and text that's in a tweet.
This allows you to search a long column of tweets and view only the tweets by one or more specific users, or by the popular keywords in your niche (target market).
Easily "retweet" a tweet (comment) that has been made by another person, so that all of the people that are following you can read it.
In the "standard" web interface, you have to manually do the steps to copy and paste the text in a tweet to be able to retweet it.
However, with TweetDeck all you have to do is point to a user's graphical avatar (often a picture of the user) and click on a button to repeat a tweet.
There are well over 100 Twitter applications (services) that are available and each adds some kind of functionality to the "standard" web interface to allow you to work faster, smarter and more effectively.
