How to Deal With Working Weekends

  • 1). Ask your friends for a little help when it comes to planning social events. If your friends are considerate of your schedule, you can plan events for your off days so you are still able to participate.

  • 2). Make time for your family during your off days. Just because you are off on a Tuesday or Wednesday does not mean you cannot take a trip to the movies or have a family dinner at home.

  • 3). Find unique opportunities that you may not have if you worked a regular schedule. For example, weekdays off provide you the perfect chance to chaperon school field trips or surprise your spouse with lunch.

  • 4). Treat your days off like weekends. Think of your Tuesday off as a Saturday and do what you would normally do. Relax, read a book or take a nap -- it is your Saturday regardless what the calendar says.

  • 5). Look for interesting activities on your days off. Bars fill up with people on Friday nights, but there may also be an excellent band that plays a local club every Wednesday or live band karaoke on Mondays. Drink specials, live music and fun activities are spread through the week at many businesses; all it takes is a little searching.

  • 6). Enjoy the benefits of being off while everyone else is at work. You never have problems scheduling doctor's appointments, stores are empty and easy to navigate, and you never have to cram into a crowded subway train or wait in line for a drink. Working weekends can be frustrating, but being off on weekdays is often quite nice.
