Farhan Akhtar and a New Era of Filmmaking
Having in him an enviable film pedigree, by virtue of his screenwriter parents, Javed Akhtar and Honey Irani, Farhan Akhtar, is one of the talented filmmakers we have in Indian Film Industry. Often heralded as "The Future Of Indian Cinema", Farhan Akhtar not just crafted a place for himself as a filmamker, but also as an actor, screenwriter, producer and not the least a singer.
With his first script, Dil Chahta Hai, starring Aamir Khan, Farhan sparked a new wave of cinema, with which youth related to very fast. This film reflected the experience and thought process of young generation. This film was the huge hit both commercially and critically. This iconic movie of his career also fetched him his first National Award. Farhan's next directorial venture, Lakshya (2004) was also a story of an aimless youngster, finally setting a goal for himself. The film can not be termed as a commercial success but was critically acclaimed. Same year Farhan also made his british debut as the english lyricist for the sound track of Bride & Prejudice.
Farhan remade the Amitabh Bachchan's classic Don with Shah Rukh Khan as lead in 2006. This was his third project as a director. The film was declared hit and he was known as "the torchbearer of remakes" in India. In 2007, Farhan donned the cap of Producer and his first production was Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd. Farhan was supposed to make his acting debut with this movie but his role went to Abhay Deol as he was involved with Don at that time.
Next year in 2008, Farhan made his acting and singing debut with the musical film Rock On or which he wrote the dialogues and also produced the film. The film was received well at the box office and Farhan's acting and singing talent was much praised. He produced his sister Zoya Akhtar's directorial venture Luck By Chance, in which acted as well. The film was a flop at the box office but amanged to get mixed reviews by critics. Farhan was again proased for his acting skills. Farhan's next film Karthik Calling Karthik was also declared a flop. But with each of his movies, he emerged as a better actor. And this was proved with his film Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. This film was directed by Zoya Akhtar and Farhan's Excel Entertainment produced it. This film also won the Filmfare Award Best Film of the year and Farhan also won many awards for his portrayal of Imran in the film.
Farhan proved his capabilities as an actor with the movies like Bombay Talkies, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and Shaadi Ke Side Effects. He made the sequel of his Don in 2011. As a director this was his last project. Althogh he kept producing the films like Talaash, Fukrey and more. In 2015 audiences will see him two different kind of roles. He is coming with Amitabh Bachachan in Wazir where he is playing a role of ATS officer and next he will be seen in Dil Dhadakne Do with Priyanka Chopra, Anushka Sharma and Ranveer Singh. This is his home production film.
