How to Install an AirPort Card Into a PowerMac G4 Computer
- 1). Save any currently open documents and exit any active applications. Open the "Apple" menu and select the option labeled "Shut Down." Allow the computer to shut down. Turn off the monitor and any attached peripheral devices. Wait approximately 10 minutes for the device to cool down before proceeding.
- 2). Disconnect the monitor cable from the rear panel of the computer. Disconnect any other cables attached to the computer's interface ports, but leave the power cord connected. Ground yourself by touching a metal surface on the rear panel of the computer case. Unplug the power cord and move the computer to a clean and stable work surface. Position the computer such that the front panel is facing you.
- 3). Find the latch installed on the computer case's right side panel, near the top edge. Hook a finger through the circular opening on the end of the latch, then lift the latch upward until the side panel comes open. Use both hands to brace the side panel as you lower it down onto the work surface.
- 4). Inspect the computer's system board and find the Airport card connector, located in the near-right corner of the board, next to a metal bracket. Hold the Airport card with its bar code facing upward. Insert the rear end of the card into the large slot in the metal bracket. Slide the card through the bracket until it is seated in the Airport card connector. Fit the plastic tab attached to the front end of the card into the small slot in the metal bracket.
- 5). Find the antenna wire, located on the left side of the metal bracket. Connect the antenna wire to the matching port on the rear end of the Airport card. Tuck the excess wire back along the left side of the metal bracket.
- 6). Grip the edges of the right side panel with both hands and lift it upwards. Press the panel onto the computer case until you feel it snap into place. Return the computer to its original location and reconnect the monitor cable and any other previously-disconnected cables, including the power cord. Turn on the monitor and peripheral devices. Turn on the computer.
