Colt 1911A1 Assembly Instructions
- 1). Push the barrel into the front of the slide until it cannot go any further back.
- 2). Compress the recoil spring slightly and place it immediately on top of the barrel in the slide. Release the pressure and it will click into place with part of the spring protruding out the front part of the slide.
- 3). Place the bushing--the small teardrop-shaped metal plate--over the barrel protruding from the front of the slide.
- 4). Place the slide onto the rails of the 1911 frame and push it all the way back.
- 5). Place the slide-stop pin and lever into the hole on the left side of the pistol and click it into place.
- 6). Place the recoil spring plug over the recoil spring protruding from the front of the slide and push it all the way into the slide. Keep the pressure on with your thumb or finger.
- 7). Twist the bushing down so that it clips over the recoil spring plug and holds it into place. Release the pressure on the recoil spring plug once the bushing is in place.
- 8). Pull the slide action back and let it come closed again to ensure that the assembly process has been successful.
