How to Mount Army Medals
- 1). Remove the back from a shadow box. Place the shadow box glass down on a work surface. Slide or remove the retaining clips so that the back can be removed. Clean the inside of the shadow box glass with glass cleaner and paper towel to remove any dust, debris or film.
- 2). Measure the back that was removed from the shadow box with a tape measure. Subtract 1/4 to 1/2 inch from the width and length measurement. Transfer the measurements to a piece of 1/4-inch thick cork board. The reduction in size is to allow the cork, when mounted to the back, to fit inside the frame of the box.
- 3). Cut the cork board with a sharp pair of scissors. Heat the glue gun and apply several small drops of glue around the edge of the cork. Place the cork board carefully on the inside of the shadow box back and press firmly in place.
- 4). Cut a piece of felt using the same dimensions of the cork board. Once again, use sharp scissors and glue the felt to the cork board with hot glue.
- 5). Arrange the medal on the cork board and secure in place with straight pins. Consider off setting the medals from the back and staggering them to create a unique display when mounted.
- 6). Place the back of the shadow box with the mounted medals, back on the shadow box frame. Secure the back in place with the included retaining clips. Make any necessary adjustments to the arrangement of the medals before placing the shadow box mount out for display.
