Visit libraryireland for a collection of histories of Ireland, written in the early 20th century. Choose one from the tab "History." Information is provided about the background of the author as well. The site also includes books and articles on Irish social history. Under "People," look for "A Compendium of Irish Biography." "Irish Places" includes "Atlas and Cyclopedia of Ireland" and "A Topographical Dictionary of Ireland." The latter is a classic work from 1837 describing all of the towns, parishes and geographical features of the country along with their historical background. - 3

Explore Irish history through maps. Go to "Ireland's History in Maps" on the rootsweb.ancestry site. It contains not only maps of Ireland from the Ice Ages to 1845 but also discussions of each time segment, with excerpts from historical writings. It also includes links for further references. - 4). Read historical writings to get a "feel" for each era. Check out the website CELT---Corpus of Electronic Texts. It contains material from the earliest recorded Irish annals translated into English through the Constitution of the Irish Free State Act from 1922. The site also includes some selections of Irish literature.
