    • 1). Prevent crankiness by getting 8 to 10 hours of sleep every night. Prevention is the best means of dealing with irritability that can come from lack of sleep over time.

    • 2). Ensure your blood sugar is up. A combination of low blood sugar with lack of sleep accentuates crankiness. Boost your alertness and mood with healthy sugars that come from fruits as well as protein from nuts and seeds.

    • 3). Stretch to invigorate your muscles and get your blood running through them. Exercise for 15 to 20 minutes to make your body feel less tired for a short period of time.

    • 4). Continue to recognize and monitor your mood. While you may feel irritable, be conscious of it and do not allow yourself to act or speak sharply to those around. Give yourself a timeout if needed.
