How to Fix a Muffler on a 185 Hydro John Deere
- 1). Park the lawn tractor on a level surface and set the parking brake. Remove the key from the ignition, and allow the engine adequate time to cool before moving to the next step.
- 2). Open the hood of the tractor; disconnect the headlight wire from the wiring harness on the right side of the engine. Remove the two 13-mm bolts on each side of the frame that holds the hood in place. Slide off the hood.
- 3). Remove the four 10-mm bolts and washers that hold the heat shield in place over the muffler. Remove the heat shield; remove the two bolts on the bottom of the valve cover that hold the muffler bracket.
- 4). Pull out on the muffler guard and remove the muffler. Slide the new muffler and gasket into position by pulling out on the muffler guard. Follow the instructions in reverse to complete.
