How to Make Dental Moldings
- 1). Add a small amount (2 to 3 oz.) of dental alginate into a cup.
- 2). Slowly pour in water and mix until the alginate powder becomes a thick paste.
- 3). Scoop the alginate into the upper dental tray, being careful not to overfill (you could make yourself gag).
- 4). Put the loaded tray over your upper teeth, holding it in place until the alginate hardens. Dental alginate sets in about 3 minutes, so you need to work quickly. When the alginate has become rubbery and solid, carefully remove it from your mouth.
- 5). Cover the alginate with a wet paper towel to keep it from drying out and repeat the process with your lower teeth.
- 6). Pour a small amount of water into a cup.

Sift powdered dental stone into the water until it looks like a dry riverbed. - 8). Mix the dental stone and water together, working out any lumps.
- 9). Pour the mixed dental stone into the two alginate molds, tapping the sides and bottom of the trays to allow any trapped air bubbles to rise to the surface.
- 10
Allow the dental stone to harden and remove the teeth casts from the alginate. The casts will be thin and U-shaped but will accurately represent your teeth. - 11
Mix more dental stone and fill the dental base mold. - 12
Allow the dental stone in the mold to thicken, then press one of the teeth casts into it just enough to secure it in place. - 13
