- 1). Single-click the "Start" button (the Windows-logo on the lower-left-hand side of the screen). The Start menu appears. Click the "Control Panel" button.
- 2). Single-click "System and Security" on the page that appears. The computer's system utilities are displayed.
- 3). Single-click "Defragment your hard drive" underneath the "Administrative Tools" sub-heading. Single-click your "C:" drive on the "Disk Defragmenter" window that is displayed.
- 4). Single-click the "Defragment Disk" button on the lower-right side of the "Disk Defragmenter" window. This compresses all of the data you have on your hard drive, eliminating fragmentation.
