    • 1). Wait until a time when your refrigerator is nearly empty, such as just before your next trip to the grocery store. Remove all of the items in the refrigerator. Remove the shelves and drawers so that you can access all corners of the compartment.

    • 2). Use a dry method to remove hair first. Put on a pair of rubber dish washing gloves, and wipe them across the interior surfaces, shelves and drawers. Hold the fingers of one hand flat and wrap them in cello tape. Wrap the tape with the sticky side facing out. Lightly pat the inner walls and surfaces of the refrigerator to contact hair, which should adhere to the tape. In lieu of tape, you may use a pet hair roller or other pet hair-capturing product.

    • 3). Use a wet method of hair removal. Wipe the compartment, shelves and accessories using a clean, damp sponge. Rinse the sponge often, as hair accumulates. Once you remove most of the visible hair, wash the interior using a clean sponge. Use a solution of 2 tbsp. baking soda to 1 quart warm water to wash the interior and parts if odors are a problem. Remove sticky spots with embedded hair by placing a damp paper towel over the top of the spot to soak. Rinse with clean water after washing. Clean the shelves and drawers in the same manner, or clean them in the kitchen sink with dish liquid and warm water. Wipe down the door gasket using only warm water and a sponge, as detergents may damage the gasket.

    • 4). Disinfect the interior surfaces and shelves with a freshly prepared solution of 1/2 tbsp. chlorine bleach combined with 1/2 gallon of water. Leave the bleach solution on for at least one minute. Go over the areas a final time with a wet sponge to rinse. Disinfection is an important step. Disinfection kills germs from food sources and germs that are transferred to your refrigerator from pet hair.
