- 2). Have a solid education. An good education through an apprenticeship or going to an official gunsmith school is important, and putting the two together is optimal. By uniting the two, you will know more about being a gunsmith and the business aspects of the job. Think about working for an experienced gunsmith before trying to be one yourself.

Even though you will learn many of the technical aspects of being a gunsmith through an instructive course, you might not get the individual attention and expertise you would get from actually participating in the gunsmith field.
- 4). Keep your current career. A gunsmith career is one that is focused in a particular area and it often means that the starting pay is not very high. It is most likely that being a gunsmith only will be a part-time activity so you will have to have a full-time job as well.
