Egyptian Cooking Tools
- Cooking was done in clay ovens or over an open fire. "Food was cooked in earthen vessels, metal being too costly for most," according to Reshafim. Pots and pans were made from clay. Pottery vessels were also important for food storage. Vessels were unglazed and porous during the first part of the period, and later sealed with waxes and resins to prevent evaporation. Spoons were common, but it is unknown if these spoons were used for eating or cooking. Knives for cutting food were made of stone. Although little is known, Egyptian cooking was thought to be simple, therefore requiring simple cooking tools. Bottles, jugs, ladles, mills, sieves and strainers were common tools. Bowls and whisks were also common.
