- 1). Discover what the spyware you have is called by observing popups or error messages displayed, make an exact note of what the message is. Take note of all signs of the spyware or adware.
- 2). Go to your preferred Internet search engine and search the popup or error message displayed. Spyware communities online have running discussions and support for all spyware, you will usually see a number of options helping identify what the spyware is. Website such as Exterminate-it, SpywareDB, and CA Security Advisor all offer such services (see References). Make a note of the exact spyware, or adware name.
- 3). Go back to your search engine, and search "spyware name manual removal" replacing "spyware name" with the name of your spyware. Many of the spyware security database websites will offer detailed instructions on how to manually delete the specific spyware. Depending on the spyware, and security website, an automatic tool may have been created to clean your computer of the specific infection.
- 4). Follow the instructions provided to remove your spyware or adware.
