How to Write an Essay About a Movie's Classification

104 5
    • 1). Research the movie and its classification. Find the information from books, websites and the movie's packaging. You need to know the plot, cast, direction, writer, other movie facts, classification history and classification requirements.

    • 2). Write an opening paragraph that introduces both the movie and the classification. The introduction should end in a thesis statement that not only says the name of the movie, but its classification and how you plan to argue the points. For example, state the movie falls under the tragedy classification because of the repetitive uses of death and sorrow.

    • 3). Write a paragraph about the movie itself, listing the plot and information. Do not give a complete synopsis, just a basic description in two or three sentences.

    • 4). Discuss the movie classification and what factors a movie must have to fall into that category. Use examples from the film to argue the points of classification. For example, if you are writing an essay about the classification of "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade," you could point out several of the action sequences to prove that it's an action film. You could also point out the traveling and adventures to prove a adventure classification.

    • 5). Write out a conclusion that briefly summarizes the arguments. One way to do this is to reword your thesis statement, and then provide a closing line or two.
