How to Identify a GM Rear End
- 1). Examine the tail lights of the GM model cars and trucks. The GMC Sierra has tall, slender tail lights that are shaped with curved outer corners. The Buick Lacrosse has sharply designed tail lights that are shaped like hooded eyes with contrasting corners and straight, flat framing.
- 2). Recognize the subtle differences of the rear bumpers in certain GM models. The Chevrolet Equinox, for example, has a rear bumper that is not only twice as thick as standard bumpers, it also extends up to connect with the base of the tail lights. The GMC Acadia is similar, however the bumper blends in completely with the side frame work and rear hatch.
- 3). Notice how the entire rear side melds seamlessly with the other outer features. See how the Buick Lucerne tail lights sit across the trunk and the corner edge of the body frame in a slim-line tear drop fashion. Also, notice how the straight edge of the Chevy Corvette rear bumper rises to meet the windshield at a steep angled lip.
- 4). Identify the logo that separates one vehicle from another. The Buick symbol is a descending, three-shield design that is encased within a silver circle. Each shield is slender and contains a single, diagonal strip in the center. The T-like design of the Chevy logo is signified by the slanted vertical edges of the center cross. The GMC emblem is well-known for its simplistic red block lettering of the standard GMC name.
