How to Make Statues out of Coins

    • 1). Decide what you want to make. Coin statues can be incredibly elaborate or very simple. Stacks of coins work well for bodies, buildings and tree trunks. Coins laid flat and glued at the edges can yield fine suns, spirals or shields. Pick a subject based on how much time you want to spend and how much money you have in coins.

    • 2). Draw a rough sketch. Sketch out your idea and translate it into how you will use coins to create it. For instance, an owl with a triangular body, wings and circular head could be made with a stack of coins as the body, two coins for each wing and a large silver dollar with two pennies pasted on it for his head.

    • 3). Gather your coins. If you don’t have a penny or other coin jar, take a trip to the bank to get rolls of coins for your project.

    • 4). Find a base. Pick a piece of wood, a flat rock or other material that will work well as a base for you coin statue. Just about anything stable that sits flat without wobbling will do.

    • 5). Arrange your coins. Make a preliminary draft of your statue so you know how all the coins will be joined together. This can be done stacking them straight up as well as by laying them flat in front of you.

    • 6). Glue it in place. Use a heavy-duty craft glue, epoxy or other clear drying durable glue that works well with metal. Jewelry glue is also a good choice. Find the glue at hardware, jewelry supply or arts and craft stores.

    • 7). Add adornments. If you coin statue seems lacking once it’s all in place, feel free to use any adornments to enhance it. The owl, for example, might do well to have three small triangular pieces of sheet metal or other material to serve as his beak. Glue adornments in place with the same glue you used for the coins.
