    • 1). Right-click the folder you want to share on the target machine and select "Sharing." This opens a window where you give sharing permissions on the network.

    • 2). Check the box labeled "Share this folder." Click the "Permissions" button to open a list of users configured on the machine. Enter "Everyone" to give permissions to every user on the network, or type in your user name to give you permissions to the file folder. Press the "OK" button to save the settings.

    • 3). Double-click the "My Network Places" icon on the desktop where you want to connect to the shared file folder. In Windows Vista, the icon is labeled "Network." Double-click the icon labeled "Computers Near Me."

    • 4). Double-click the computer name that contains the folder you want to access. In the list of shared resources, the shared folder is listed. Right-click it and select "Map network drive."

    • 5). Select a drive letter for the icon in the drop-down box and press the "Connect" button. This maps the folder to your desktop. You can now browse the folder from the remote machine.
