Can You Get Back Files If Spyware Doctor Quarantines Them?
- When a file is quarantined, it is moved into a separate folder somewhere on your hard drive. This folder cannot be accessed by any program other than Spyware Doctor, which effectively disables it. Even if you were to locate these files and click on them, they would not launch. This eliminates the possibility of an infection, while giving the user the option to restore the files, if necessary. There are also false positives, when spyware is inaccurately detected. These mistakes make quarantine a necessity.
- One of the dangers of quarantine is that it gives control to the user to decide if a false positive has occurred. In many cases, you are 100 percent sure that the "spyware" is perfectly safe and harmless. However, sometimes you don't know for sure. You may believe something is safe because the website you found it on tells you it serves a specific purpose, when in actuality, it contains viruses/spyware.
- Recovering files is easy enough, but it's best to stop the detection of these files in the first place. One way to do this is to create an exception in Spyware Doctor. Click "Settings" and then "Global Action List." Add the file to the list of files that you do not want quarantined, and change the drop-down menu to read, "Always Allow." If you do not want any files quarantined, disable "Auto Fix" on the main screen or turn off quarantine in the "Settings" menu.
- Once you have adjusted the settings so that Spyware Doctor will no longer move the file, start up the program and go to "Settings." Click "Quarantine" and you will see a complete list of every file that's ever been quarantined. Select the file(s) you want back and click "Restore."
