How to Replace Mirrors in a Ford Truck

104 3
    • 1). Open the hood and unhook your negative battery cable if your Ford truck is equipped with power windows and mirrors. If your truck has manual windows and mirrors, it is not necessary to unhook the negative battery cable.

    • 2). Begin removing the entire door panel to access the mirror mounts. Use the trim tool to pry up the window control panel if your truck is equipped with power windows. Once the panel is off, disconnect the wiring harness from the rear and set the panel aside. If the truck is equipped with manual windows, remove the cover from the window crank and remove the access screw in the center.

    • 3). Pull out the screw inside the door armrest storage compartment. Remove the small cover a few inches behind the interior door handle to access the handle mounting bolt. Once the cover is off, remove the bolt and take the handle off the door panel.

    • 4). Push the entire door panel upward to release the mounting clips, and then pull the door panel away from the door. Disconnect the courtesy door light module (if equipped). Set the door panel aside.

    • 5). Peel off the protective plastic cover from the sail panel to access the mirror mounting bolts. Remove the three mounting bolts using a standard socket wrench. Use one hand to hold the outside part of the mirror while you remove the bolts with the other hand. Pull the mirror from the vehicle when the bolts are removed, and disconnect the power mirror module (if equipped).

    • 6). Insert the new mirror into the mounting holes. Hold the mirror assembly while you tighten the bolts on the interior. Connect the power mirror module and begin replacing the door panel.

    • 7). Reattach the courtesy lamp module and snap the interior door panel back over the door. Replace the armrest compartment screw and the power window panel (or manual window crank). Replace the interior door handle and the bolt securing it.

    • 8). Repeat the entire procedure to replace the mirror on the other side, if desired. Reconnect the negative battery cable when you are finished.
