Increase Your Home Security Before You Leave for Summer Vacation

103 4
Summer is the season to travel, but unfortunately, it's also the season when the greatest number of residential robberies occur.
Millions of Americans take time to travel every summer, and criminals choose to capitalize on that time to break into empty houses.
Criminals love to break into houses whenever the occupants are away on vacation because it means no one will be there to catch them, and the occupants won't be home for a while so they won't be able to report the crimes until the criminals are already long gone.
If you're going to take a vacation, you don't want to become the victim of a crime while you're away, so you should take some of the following steps to increase your home security: 3.
Ask someone you trust to pick up your mail and check on your house on a daily basis.
If you don't know anyone who can do that for you or you feel uncomfortable asking, consider hiring someone to do it for you.
The important thing is to make sure someone is there to pick up your mail so it isn't obvious to passersby that no one has been at your house for a few days.
Uncollected mail and newspapers lower your home security because they alert criminals that your house is an easy target.
2.
Leave some lights on outside of your house so it isn't easy for criminals to try to break in at night.
If your house is well-lit, that will greatly improve your home security because criminals won't be able to hide in the darkness because your neighbors will surely see them trying to break in.
Instead of leaving lights on the entire time you are gone, you can also consider hiring someone to come over and turn them on every night at the same time they pick up your mail.
Or alternatively, you can install timed lights or motion activated lights.
Timed lights will only keep your house lit at night, and motion activated lights will only light up whenever criminals walk near them.
1.
Get a comprehensive home alarm system.
With such a system in place, your house will be better protected than ever.
If a criminal breaks in, they'll trigger the alarm, and your security company will be notified.
The company will then call you to find out if you accidentally set it off, but if an actual break-in is occurring they'll immediately alert the police and send someone over to check on your property.
You'll be happy that you were notified so quickly because you won't have to find out by returning from the end of your wonderful trip to find your house in a wreck.
With a home alarm in place, your house is much less likely to be broken into successfully, and just having an alarm will often deter many criminals from even considering your house.
When you're away on vacation, an alarm can really provide you with the extra security you need to make sure your home is safe.
