How to Dissolve Agfa Grease
- 1). Pop off the camera lens. Some lenses screw to the camera body, and others snap off. Check your camera's manual to see how to get the lens off the camera. If the lens is stuck to the camera with Agfa grease, use a cotton swab to apply alcohol to the joint to loosen the threads. This should allow the lens to come away from the camera with some effort.
- 2). Fill a small bowl with lighter fluid. Place the camera lens inside the fluid, making sure it is completely submerged. Set a small lamp over the bowl and turn on the light. Allow the lens to sit for 24 hours in the lighter fluid. The heat from the lamp will heat the fluid slightly, making it more effective at dissolving the grease.
- 3). Dry the lens. With a wax pencil, mark the position of where the two pieces of lens connect. This will show any progress that has occurred, because the lines will shift away from each other when the lens is twisted.
- 4). Remove the lens from the lighter fluid. With rubber patches or jar openers, grab the two pieces of the lens. Carefully twist the pieces apart until they are completely released from one another.
- 5). Rinse the lenses with water and detergent to remove all lighter fluid. Scrub the two pieces with an old toothbrush to remove any remaining grease residue. Wipe the surface of both pieces with alcohol to aid in drying time. When the pieces are dry, apply a petroleum-based grease to the threads, and reattach the lenses, and then attach them back onto the camera. You should now have a fully functioning camera lens.
