104 3
    • 1). Find the data. All your office and similar documents are likely either in a folder you chose or under the "My Documents" folder. Other files that are associated with a particular program, such as Microsoft Money, will have an on option to back up the data file. Choose the option from something like the "File" menu. Choose to save the file to the same location with your other documents.

    • 2). Browse to the folder you've saved all your documents in. Select all the files by going to the edit menu and choosing "Select All." Next select "Copy" from the same menu.

    • 3). Insert a flash drive or a writable CD or DVD and paste all the files into the storage device or disc by clicking on the drive and then going to the edit menu and choosing "Paste."

    • 4). Move the flash drive or CD to the new computer. Find the drive and select all of the files, and then copy and paste the files to a folder on your new computer's hard drive. For programs that need the files to run, open the program, choose "Import," and browse to the file's location and select it.
