Emergency Wedding Day Kit
Emergency! It's your wedding day and you've got coffee-breath, or a ladder in your stockings, or your wedding dress zip won't do up, or smudged your make up, or the page boy has skinned his knee and is bawling his eyes out! Eeeeek! What do you do? You relax, take a moment and grab your emergency wedding day kit (that your bridesmaid/mum/best friend is handily carrying in her bag for you): Just like a scout, it's best to be prepared, and packing a little kit of essentials and lifesavers can really make a difference to your day.
You'll be able to chill out knowing that even little problems and niggles don't matter and are easily solved.
Here are some ideas on what to include in your emergency wedding day kit: - Tissues/wet wipes - for teary moments, make up blotting and general spillages.
- Mints - for pre-kiss fresh breath and to help with the dry mouth that comes with talking so much! - Plasters - for blisters, accidents or even just to help shoes fit better (extra tip: choose transparent ones so they don't show up in photos).
Consider getting some gel inserts for when your shoes start to hurt from dancing.
- Clear nail varnish - for fixing ladders in tights and touching up chips in your nails.
- Coloured nail varnish - for proper nail emergencies, also bring along the colour you've used for your and your bridesmaids' nails.
Might also be worth decanting a little nail varnish remover into a small bottle and bringing some cotton buds to touch-ups.
- Perfume/deodorant - even the most composed bride might need an extra spritz of fragrance after all the hurrying, adrenaline and dancing! Go with a scent that you use a lot - one of our strongest senses is smell and a familiar scent can make your groom go all gooey when he nuzzles your neck...
- Cotton wool buds - for touching up make up in a pinch (extra tip: waterproof mascara will stop panda eyes when/if you end up sobbing at the altar!).
- Lip gloss/lipstick/mascara/powder/foundation etc.
Don't bring a suitcase, but do bring along your essential make up kit for freshening up after tears/dancing/a long day.
- Mirror - for spot checks throughout the day.
- Hair pins/hairbrush/hairspray - if you do a little too much head-banging at your disco, or it's a windy day, you might need to re-adjust that do! - Painkillers/antacids tablets/rescue remedy - a mini first aid kid for headaches, indigestion and nerves.
- Safety pins/sewing kit - for wedding dress emergencies and droopy buttonholes.
- Snacks - pack some high energy foods and water to keep you going throughout the day.
Things like oatcakes, bananas and glucose tablets can keep you going - even if you skipped breakfast because of butterflies in your tummy.
Make sure you drink plenty of water, especially if you're on the champagne and wine.
It will stop any embarrassing drunk bride moments and keep you hydrated and full of beans.
- Flat shoes - for when you just can't totter about on your heels any more and it's time to do some serious dancing...
- Phone with all possible numbers of suppliers/venue/guests you might need if something goes wrong.
Give a list of these numbers to another member of your bridal party as well, so you have double-back-up! - Sunglasses/suncream for hot days.
- Umbrella/extra layer for cold or wet days.
- A big smile and the knowledge that no matter what goes wrong, you're set up to have the best day of your life...
