As a child of the south (born and raised in Baton Rouge), Hurricane Katrina must have been devastating to Randy. As typical of his generous spirit, he participated in this relief benefit, which was a 2-hour concert on September 9, 2005, which aired commercial-free. The proceeds went to victims of Hurricane Katrina.
As an aside, I made one embarrassing slip of the tongue during our conversation. We were talking about music and I mentioned that I had really enjoyed jazz in my youth.
"You know, what we called Modren Jazz - Stan Kenton, Stan Getz, Miles Kimball---"
Good grief! Miles Kimball is a mail order trinkets company! Randy graciously overlooked my goof. But, Dawg, if you ever read this, I meant Miles Davis, of course, man.
I apologized for taking his time talking about my music interests, and he said, Oh no, man. I love talking to music people. (I glowed all day after that remark. What a NICE man!)
