The Future of Internet

103 14
Regardless to how the internet began it has transformed into it's current state.
What is it? The internet is a global library.
It is an unlimited source of knowledge.
Information can be found in multiple formats.
Video, audio and text formats are readily available for use.
It is a place to publicize your daily journal, publish an article, send out a news release, give your opinion on things, play games, watch videos, listen to music and thousands of other activities.
There is currently proposed legislation to remove the open internet and give control to the larger companies.
What does that mean? That means the larger companies will control what you and I can and can't find or do on the internet.
They will use the premise that they are blocking unwanted content when in reality they will be directing you to their own content or to the content of the highest bidder for that particular content.
The freedom currently known to the internet community will no longer exist.
How? They will probably use Quality of Service technology which has existed for a long time.
This technology can assign a rating to certain computers or servers giving them precedence over other computers or servers.
It can reduce or increase the bandwidth quality used to serve content.
With that control the large companies can literally make your internet content disappear by making it unreachable.
This should be unacceptable to anyone that uses the internet.
The large companys didn't build the internet content, individuals like you and I did.
Each and every person who has made a website, posted in a forum or made a blog has contributed to building the global encyclopedia.
It was built to share ideas and information, not to be some giant commercial business under the control of large companys.
I would agree there is content on the internet I personally don't want to see, so I don't go looking for it, simple as that.
The value of the content I do want to find far outweighs the disvalue of any unwanted content.
I would much rather avoid unwanted content than be unable to find or reach the content I do want.
If you feel as I do you should do some searching for ways to prevent this legislation and do it quickly.
Call your congressman and senators.
Join one of the available websites that are taking petitions.
Make your opinion heard.
The internet which is the last truly free public medium is going to be gone if we the people do not make a stand.
We must all stand together to fight the censorship of the internet.
