    How Germs Spread

    • If you understand how cold and flu germs spread, you can take more efficient action to prevent their transmission this season. According to EverydayHealth.com, cold and flu germs can spread in two ways: touching a surface that has the germs on it and then touching your eyes, nose, or mouth; or inhaling infected mucus via the air.

    Flu Shot

    • Although some people are opposed to getting a flu shot because it is unnatural, WebMD says that it's the best way to prevent getting and passing on the flu. It's best to get the vaccine in the early autumn months, but it is also available throughout the winter. The shot injects dead virus strains of the flu so that your body will build up immunity.

    Keep Your Hands Clean

    • Keeping your hands clean is one of the most important tips for staying healthy during cold and flu season. According to WebMD, never cough or sneeze into your hands because germs stick to bare hands. Instead, WebMD suggests using a tissue or coughing/sneezing into the air away from people.

    Drink Fluids

    • WebMD reports that water simultaneously flushes out your system, rids you of infected germs and rehydrates you. If you already have the flu, make sure you don't get dehydrated. Drinking plenty of fluids will keep that from happening.

    Get Enough Sleep

    • Getting enough sleep is very important when it comes to assisting your body in fighting off infections. Getting sleep is not only important for the prevention of cold and flu viruses, but it is also important if you are already infected. Getting enough sleep gives you more strength and helps your body get rid of the virus more quickly.
