The Twitter Revolution Explained
Hello again, Today I would like to talk a little bit about Twitter - yes, as it relates to internet marketing and your online business.
Some people seem to think that Twitter is nothing more than a big waste of time, used by kids and online geeks to see who can out do each other with their number of followers.
But is there more to it than that? You better believe it! Twitter has become a huge phenomenon in the past year, and is actually building in size more and more almost every month in signups and number of people "tweeting" each other.
One reason for this is that many have found out about the viral aspect of the site, and how easy it is to get hundreds and even thousand of people to follow you in a short amount of time.
The beauty of it is, you can chose a specific "topic" that relates to whatever you wish, and draw in followers that are also interested in this topic.
Why is that important? Find a targeted market, send them good content, and you may just have the makings for some quick cash my friend.
How is that possible? Well there are ways to actually send targeted messages on a regular basis to your followers, and if it's good content the more people will follow you as well.
You say you don't have time for this foolishness? Me neither, which is why I'm on TweetLater.
com, which is a service with a free version and a paid version that can allow you to send out pre-written messages (tweets) at certain intervals of your choosing.
With the paid version, you can even rotate different messages, send them at staggered times throughout the day, and manage multiple Twitter accounts as well.
With TweetLater pro version you can do much more, including filter out spam by certain keywords.
and do specific targeted keyword searches from other "tweets" to see what others are doing (spying on others tweets!).
The possibilities are endless, but that is for the advanced users.
To get started on the basics is really pretty easy! So what are the basics? Just go to Twitter.
com and signup, using a profile name that matches your business or topic of interest (such as "green-thumb-biz1" or "marketing_guru").
After that, check out some other nifty profiles and see if you can make yours a little more decorative, in other words don't keep the basic plain background that they provide.
It's boring, nobody will take you seriously! You can add some pictures to a background image, or put some logo from your business, whatever you wish.
Just make it look more professional and organized.
Of course make sure to fill out some info on your profile about what you do, and a website address if you have one.
After that, start to check out the profiles of others in your area of interest by doing a search for some related keywords - you can search on anything from "golf" to "forex trading" to "cycling" and find probably hundreds or even thousands of people that share your interest.
Nowadays, many people are using it to build a business.
So if you really want to build up a following fast, you need to make a nice profile, then get some serious content.
Of course, you probably want to play around with it for at least a few days before jumping into a full-scale content assault.
It's been said that if you build up too fast, they will kill your account.
Also don't follow too many people at once or your account will be flagged as "suspicious" which I've seen done to a few people.
It just looks spammy, you know what I mean? You have to follow a few people to get started though, so started following a select few and hopefully most of them will follow you back and build up some credibility for you.
Also, make sure you automatically follow those who follow you! This is very important; it will gain huge status very quickly for you.
This can be setup in TweetLater, make sure you check out that setting.
After that, you can get some content - for free of course! Go to TwitterFeed.
com and setup an account, then go find some content by setting up an alert on Google using keywords related to your business.
Once again, this part is a little tricky.
You have to change (or edit) the alert to be sent in RSS format, then copy and paste the anchor link from the alert into your feed.
After that, just schedule it for whenever you want the feed to be fed to Twitter, say every couple of hours or so, and it works automatically! Just don't go overboard and send updates every few minutes, pretty soon it will be obvious you are spamming, which is frequent messages that don't help anyone.
Good content sent infrequently helps people that are searching for good articles and info, so you can do that.
Another way to boost your credibility and gain followers is by "retweeting" people, especially people that have many followers.
If you know someone in your business that has a lot of followers, retweet a few of their interesting tweets by using this format: RT @username "message goes here".
Here is an example that I did recently: RT @johnalanis If ignorance is bliss, the happiness quotient of the world has been steadily increasing these past few years! Well that covers the basics, but there are more tricks out there - so get started an see if you can think of some creative ways to make money ( I'll give you a hint, think affiliate products).
Happy Tweeting!
